For this week, you are responsible for reading Chapters 2, 10, 12, and 13 only from the 9/11 Commission Report (uploaded separately). You are also required to listen to at least 15 of the 45 stories of remembrance of 9/11 victims taken as a part of the StoryCorps project and accessible at this link: https://storycorps.org/listen/?collection=september-11th As you are reading the selected chapters from the 9/11 Commission Report and listen to the StoryCorps remembrances look for the following things:
1. What does it mean to fight a war against terrorism? 2. How does the report define terrorism? 3. What were the reasons for Osama Bin Laden’s appeal and rise to power in
the Middle East? 4. How effectively does the report use history to analyze conditions in the
Middle East? 5. Describe and evaluate the U.S. response to the attacks. 6. Describe and evaluate the proposed global strategy put forth in the 9/11
Commission Report. 7. Is it correct to describe terrorism as a generational challenge? 8. How realistic are the various recommendations for creating unity within the
government? 9. Why is it difficult to generalize about reactions to the 9/11 attacks? 10. How and why did differing relationships (spouse, child, parent, friend, co-
worker, etc.) to the victims shape understandings of the attacks?
