Statistics addressed to the President of the United States in the 2014 Department of Defense (DoD) report on sexual assault prevention and response stated that “the significant increase in the number of victim reports of sexual assault from 2012-2014 has greatly expanded the DoD ability to provide support and services to victims and hold offenders appropriately accountable” (Department of Defense, 2014). Clearly there was a problem and the DoD had work to do. Leading the way as always, Army leaders got to the core of their organizations the squad leaders. After receiving feedback the Army launched its “Not In My Squad (NIMS) initiative March 31, 2015 kicking off Sexual Assault Awareness and Prevention Month. The Army’s NIMS program is vital to eliminating sexual assault and sexual harassment because it builds upon the bedrock of the Army’s profession trust which strengthens team commitment, shared understanding and purpose.
