Syllabus

Course Overview

Welcome to your Capella University online course, DPA8109 – Program Evaluation and Action Research.

This course will introduce the basic fundamentals of both program evaluation and action research. Program evaluation is used to objectively evaluate and improve program efficiency. Since program evaluation is also a requirement for all federally funded grants, this is an important skill for public administrators. Action research engages participants in various aspects of research design or implementation. This course will introduce the concepts, design methods, and their application to real-world situations using both program evaluation and action research methods.

Course Competencies To successfully complete this course, you will be expected to:

1. Analyze action research methodology.

2. Analyze program evaluation methodology.

3. Evaluate the applications of action research.

4. Evaluate the applications of program evaluation.

5. Communicate effectively through the appropriate application of grammar, punctuation, spelling, writing mechanics, and professional tone, while adhering to current APA style and formatting.

Information regarding any applicable prerequisites is available through the University catalog and your advisor.
